Made to Measure - Brioni

Brioni is an Italian fashion house founded in 1945. Renowned for the most opulent off-the-rack suits in the world, the company specializes in the luxurious craftsmanship of handmade suits. Brioni was named after the Italian name for the Croatian island group, the Brijuni islands.

Master tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and his business partner Gaetano Savini opened their first suit shop in Rome's Via Barberini at the end of World War II.

Today, the company operates eight hand-production factories in Abruzzo, Bologna, and the regions near Milan. Brioni also administers one of Italy's most respected tailoring schools, offering a four-year program that generates recruits for its factories.

900 tailors create 200 suits in different styles and sizes every year at Brioni. A quarter of the production consists of made-to-measure tailored suits for an exclusive 25,000 client base. Each garment requires at least 30–35 hours of work, and there are more than 5,000 different fabrics to choose from.

Brioni also operates a shirt factory and leather fashion house. PPR acquired the company in 2011.
